Each year, ALFA presents the ALFA Orator Award to a distinguished alumni of AC College of Technology, who has contributed immensely to the development of leather and allied sectors. The award takes a cyclic pattern, with efforts in R&D recognized in the first year (2003, 2007), business (2004, 2008), marketing (2005) and entrepreneurship (2006). from 2009, the awards will generally take the pattern of Business management, Research and development and Technology management.
The first award was presented in 2003 to Dr Thirumalachari Ramasami, then Director Central Leather Research Institute. From the subsequent years, the awardee is selected from amongst the panel of nominees recommended by the alumni (Nominations invited throughout the year. Name of the nominee, year of pass out from AC College, a short (1000 word) write up on achievements which deserve the award can be emailed to the Secretary, ALFA). A shortlisted panel of nominations will be forwarded by Executive Committee of ALFA (not later than 31 January) to the Selection committee consisting of Dr T Ramasami, Secretary DST, President ALFA and Secretary ALFA (as member secretary). The name of the awardee would be annouced by 28 February and the Award function would be held on 24 April. The awardee is required to deliver the ALFA oration on any topic of his choice at the function. The award consists of a citation and silver plaque.
